Mini Hats

My Creation

I had an idea to make little knitted hats to put on my Christmas cards this year. I first thought about making egg-cosies that could be taken off the card and used. I found (after a lot of searching) a pattern for egg-cosies but it wasn't quite right. I then found a very basic pattern on the Innocent website, from their annual campaign for Age UK. I made it, and it was fine. But then I added a pom pom and it was now too big and bulky for the card.

Then, I took a closer look at the pattern itself and it got me thinking... What if I changed the size and left off the pom pom? I tried it and it worked!

I wanted to make them into little thumb-puppet type things (they're just the right size for thumbs) and thinking that a simple smiley face drawn onto the thumb, plus the hat would = hours of fun. I thought they could again be pulled off the card and played with, but I struggled to find a way of doing that without ruining the overall presentation of the card, so I've decided against it!

The purple/yellow one was my first ever attempt at knitting stripes!

Thank you very much! My current plan involves having 3 hats per card... which means I need a lot of hats. Thankfully, they knit up really fast!
