My Creation:
Ab imo pectore – from the bottom of my heart
Marmalade I would like to make an impassioned plea on behalf of the wider Busymitts Family. I am not like yourself a latin scholar but when I searched the Internet for a latin maxim I think this should strike a chord with you. Ab imo pectore – from the bottom of my heart.
I have been reflecting on your comments, your blog and many of the remarks you have made over the past while on the Busymitts website. I know that you have caused some upset and other users have asked you to consider the remarks you have made. You always have quoted that you “Fear not to speak the truthâ€. I would like to speak some truth if it is permissible? I to subscribe to your “Freedom of Speech†however in any democracy it is not TOTAL freedom to say what you like without thinking of the consequences of what you have said or typed. In the CYBERWORLD this is very important. I think it was Fiona who made the very salient point that bullying is a repeated behaviour, and I think you must bear responsibility for some remarks which lack tact.
A little story; I have taught in a divided society now for a good few years and have experienced at first-hand the effects of division. It is really and truly a terrible, terrible waste of talent. I am now teaching in a prestigious Grammar School for the last 8 years where academic ability is fostered through motivation and self-esteem. It is a rewarding experience and I find it motivating. These are very important qualities for young people. I at first-hand have seen the benefits of motivating young persons.
People have made statements with devastating consequences. This is how the terrible conflict in the Balkans started with inflammatory language. So we on the Busymitts Family ask, plea, appeal, and DEMAND that you consider your remarks. If I have learned one thing from a divided society is that THERE ARE MUCH MORE THINGS WHICH UNITE US THAN DIVIDES US. This is very true here on the Busymitts website. Julieannb makes the very real point that young people embarking on crafting may feel undermined and discouraged by your – HARSH – yes HARSH remarks. I would much rather young people spend their time creatively than engaging in acts of anti-social behaviour, especially with pensioners and as we were reminded this week with the events in England. Perhaps you should STOP and consider your actions. I am not trying to isolate, cyberbully intimidate you. I think that if you come on board the Family have much more to offer you. PLEASE PLEASE consider this plea. I put on offer that I will help you in whatever way I can, emailing you patterns, information and suggestions etc.
I have met some very kind, generous and true friends not acquaintances! Their generosity and caring attitude is a paramount example of everything that is good about our family. Come on board marmalade and dig deep and look into your heart and yes there is goodness there! Remember the darkest hour is before the dawn and let this be the new dawning, a new chapter. I enclose the following lines;
The boneless tongue so small and weak,
Can crush and kill declared the Greek.
The tongue destroys a greater horde
the Turk asserts, than does the sword.
The Persian proverb wisely saith
A lengthy tongue - an early death.
Or sometimes takes this form instead,
Don't let your tongue cut off your head.
The tongue can speak a word whose speed
The Arab says outstrips the steed.
While Chinese sages thus impart
The tongue's great storehouse is the heart.
From Hebrew wit the maxim's sprung,
Tho' foot may slip ne'er let the tongue.
The sacred writer crowns the whole,
Who keeps his tongue doth keep his soul.
